Blog away!
How long have I been blogging? That’s a question I often hesitate to answer.
This particular blog began November 9, 2005 over at Blogger as a way to talk about my type 2 diabetes and hypothyroidism diagnoses earlier that year and how I hoped to be much healthier in my thirties. However, I’d been using the [...]

Finding the time.
With the way life is filled to the brim these days with obligations towards everything and everyone, I am grateful for Days of Grace and Show and Tell to get in some blog posts. Even if they aren’t filled to the brim with content.
Since beginning Days of Grace only two weeks ago, I find myself [...]

Starting at the end…
I’m not good at endings.
Abrupt and quick, like pulling a band-aid off a healing wound. That’s how I’ve ended friendships and quit jobs and “fired” doctors. It’s easier that way, I tell myself, no looking back.
Finding a suitable conclusion has also been a problem with my writing. From all-nighter assignments analyzing literature back in college [...]

Show and Tell: Roots
“You know, if we traveled up I-35 and took US-18 all the way to Madison, we could stop in Rudd…” I offered up that morning as we looked over the map in our hotel room near Des Moines, where we had stopped the night before. Our ultimate destination was my brother’s house for a [...]

Back-to-School nights.
What is the combination? WHAT is the combination? I don’t remember what the combination was, I haven’t had this locker in over twenty years, why should I remember the combination!?!
I should explain that I’m experiencing my annual “back-to-school” dreams. Or maybe they’d be considered nightmares. After all, I’m expected to remember the locker combination [...]

Stuck between words and numbers.
(The following was inspired by a tweet by @laradavid. ”I wonder if I’ll ever write a book. I kind of want to, but also am kind of lazy. Tell me I’m not the only one like that, right?”.)
Ask anyone who has ever known me well at any point in my life.
Ask them what I wanted [...]

First of all, see my three diabetes goals for 2009 at Diabetes Daily. As I mention there, I will turn 33 this year, so the theme is “3″.
Besides those, I have three writing goals:
Make all deadlines without sacrificing quality.
Write something structured every day. By structured, that means a blog post or a piece [...]

2008 in Review.
January found me back at my previous place of employment after a three-month hiatus. And I’m still there, through two rounds of layoffs and a whole lot of stress.
February and March found me struggling with tooth #19.
April was the most eventful of months, with my highest A1C yet and a lovely new piece of [...]

Feeling like Sunday.
Writing while sitting in front of light box.
Elliptical workout while listening to Christmas music, Poison, and REO Speedwagon.
Coffee during Meet the Press.
Shower in time for the FOX NFL pre-game show picks.
Football, football, and more football. Scrabble during meaningless games (to us), rapt attention during the Broncos game (when not checking the Avalanche score).
Making my seventh [...]
